10 July 2006
The first meeting of the New Icelanders' Party will officially be held from 18:00 to 21:00 on Thursday 13 July, on the third floor of Alþjóðahús (Hverfisgata 18). Feel free to bring along friends, family, and anyone else you feel would be interested. This meeting will be held to finalize our platform, to come up with campaign ideas, and to hold a general discussion. If you are not able to attend, send me the questions you want raised at the meeting, as well as what you believe are the three most important issues our party needs to address. A full summary of the meeting's minutes will be forwarded to you afterwards, and further discussion is always welcome.

Hello Paul
I think one of the misses regardig people that does not speak Icelandic fluentlie is the reluctancie of Icelandic institutions, services etc. to call up on a translator.
Maybe it could be an idea to notice those who do seek for translations and reward them in some way, f.x. bringing them forward once a year etc.
Esspeciallie inside healthorganations, hospitals, religion, and in aerias that people who seek assistance can be vulnerable.
Best of luck with your work.
Suggestion noted. Thank you for your input!
Good luck with the party, I'm all for more emphasis on immigrant issues.
However, I wouldn't feel comfortable voting for a party without knowing more about how they would use the seat(s) my vote would potentially help get them.
Obviously, as you say, you would push your core issues, and that's a good thing, there's a lot of work to be done in that area, but what I'm worried about is what happens when/if you hold a swing vote on unrelated subjects, say industry, economics or foreign policy.
This is why I'm sceptical about one issue parties, they either don't care about other issues, or hold a stance on them that isn't immediately obvious and some of it's voters may not be aware of or approve of, even if they do approve of the central platform.
For me personally, I don't approve of everything they do, but usually find myself siding with the Independance party, I wouldn't be comfortable voting for a party that was basically going to be a Left-Green add-on, as a casual reading of the Grapevine seems to indicate. Even if I agree that immigration issues need more attention.
So, I'm worried about single-issue parties, they either don't get the following that they should because people who agree with their core platform don't all agree with their secondary concerns, or their secondary concerns get disproportional support, by virtue of being sold as part of the core-platform package.

Thank you Andrés.
I can appreciate your concern with "single issue" parties. Please refer to the "Our Platform" entry of this blog for a broader idea of our platform
Any other questions or concerns you might have are welcome.
Thanks again!
